Rodney Atkins If You’re Going Through Hell Country Music CD Review

Rodney Atkins, the richly talented Country artist has released him latest album titled If You’re Going Through Hell and Wow It’s good.

Unfortunately, it’s not everyday that I get a CD from an artist that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. there is usually a song or two that I just can’t force myself to get through. not at all the case with If You’re Going Through Hell. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

These days it’s a very rare CD on which every single song is good or better than the one before it. this CD is certainly one of those rare CDs.

Overall If You’re Going Through Hell is an outstanding release. what I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up and is most definitely a worthy addition to any Country collection. truly an outstanding Country CD. One of those that is completely void of any wasted time, as each track is simply superb.

While the entire CD is really very good some of my favorites are track 1 – these are my People, track 4 – Cleaning this Gun, and track 10 – If You’re Going Through Hell

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [.as in Stuck on REpeat] is track 8 – Invisibly Shaken. It’s a great track

Republican debate: Gingrich compares self to Reagan

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Republican front-runner Newt Gingrich likened himself to Ronald Reagan and insisted in a campaign debate Thursday night that he can defeat U.S. President Barack Obama in 2012, adding it was laughable for his rivals to challenge his conservative credentials.

Gingrich and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — who runs second to Gingrich in the polls in Iowa — joined five other White House hopefuls on a debate stage for the last time before Iowa’s Jan. 3 caucuses lead off the battle for the Republican presidential nomination.

The big question in the opening moments of a fast-paced two-hour debate went to the heart of a dilemma that could eventually settle the race — do conservative Republican voters pick a candidate who best represents their party’s views, or do they simply want the candidate who is best able to defeat the president?

Those voters begin making that choice on Jan. 3, and if experience is any guide, one or more of the presidential hopefuls on the debate stage will not make it out of the state to compete in the new Hampshire primary a week later.

Romney said his experience in private business made him the man to confront Obama in debates in 2012. “And I’ll have credibility on the economy when he doesn’t,” he said.

The Republican primary winner faces Obama, whose favourable ratings have declined sharply, mostly because of his inability to unleash a strong economic recovery. Unemployment remains at a high 8.6 per cent.

Gingrich, who seemed an also-ran in the earliest stages of the race, has emerged as a leader heading into the final stretch of the pre-primary campaign. he now leads the Republicans in the polls both in Iowa and nationally.

However, his conservative credentials were immediately challenged: Former Sen. Rick Santorum recalled that as House of Representatives speaker Gingrich had to contend with a “conservative revolution” from the ranks of Republican lawmakers.

Indeed, Gingrich is encumbered with a history of having left the House under a cloud of ethics complaints, and he has had three marriages and admitted marital infidelities.

Romney largely refrained from criticism of Gingrich, despite increasingly barbed attacks in day-to-day campaigning, including a characterization of the former speaker as “zany” for having endorsed mining the moon and lighting highways with mirrors in space.

Romney, who has been attacked for shifting positions on several issues held dear by conservatives, firmly rejected suggestions he once favoured same-sex marriage only to change his position. “I have been a champion of protecting traditional marriage,” he said.

Gingrich had set the stage for the debate by pushing back against criticism from Romney and pledged in a new ad to be positive in the race.

In a forceful attack, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann said Gingrich “had his hand out and received $1.6 million to influence senior Republicans and keep the scam going in Washington, D.C.,” for Freddie Mac, a government-backed housing entity.

“Just not true,” Gingrich shot back. “I never lobbied under any circumstances,” he added, denying an allegation she had not made.

The rivals also discussed illegal immigration, with Romney saying he’s all for immigration, as long as it’s legal and policies don’t reward those who are already here. he said workers who have come to the U.S. illegally would have to leave the country but would be eligible to apply to return as long as they went to the back of the line.

Gingrich said Americans have to be realistic in confronting the millions of workers without documentation. But he also said he would cut off funding for so-called sanctuary cities that harbour illegal immigrants and would drop federal lawsuits against states with tough anti-immigration laws.

The wild card in the Iowa race is Texas Rep. Ron Paul is, with the small-government libertarian surpassing Romney in some polls of the state’s voters. Paul said the U.S. has no legitimate claim to block Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon, while Bachmann called his position wildly dangerous.

Also participating in the debate were Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman. Huntsman is not campaigning for the Iowa caucuses but has recently gained on Romney in next-up new Hampshire.

How Does Alcohol Affect Exercise?

It’s finally Friday and you just got off work. Now you’re thinking about going out later and having a few drinks with your friends and relaxing. after all, you worked hard all week and you certainly deserve a little enjoyment and fun now that the weekend’s here so there’s nothing wrong with going out and having a few drinks with your friends, right?

Anyway, like always, tomorrow is a workout day and since you exercise regularly and take care of yourself a little alcohol won’t hurt anything along the way, right? Well, before you head out to the local pub, here are a few things to consider in making your choice of just how much you really want to drink.

Studies have shown that small amounts of alcohol increase muscular endurance and strength output, but, these benefits are very short lived. after around twenty or so minutes, the problems start. All the negative side affects of alcohol fully outweigh any possible benefits it can have to anyone. Alcohol is a toxin (poison) and so a whole host of physical abnormalities can arise.

These can reduce your strength, endurance, recovery capabilities, aerobic capacity, ability to metabolize fat and muscle growth. Alcohol can also affect your nervous system and brain. Long term use can cause severe deterioration of your central nervous system. With short term use, nerve-muscle interaction can be reduced resulting in a loss of strength.

When alcohol reaches the muscle cells, it can cause damage to them. Inflammation of the muscle cells is common among alcohol users. over the long term, some of these damaged cells can die resulting in less functional muscle contractions. Alcohol will also leave you with more muscle soreness after exercise making recuperation periods longer.

Alcohol has many affects on your heart and circulatory system as well. you may see a reduction in your endurance capacities when you drink alcohol. when drinking alcohol, your heat loss increases, because alcohol stimulates your blood vessels to dilate. this heat loss can cause your muscles to get cold thus becoming slower and weaker during contractions.

Alcohol can cause digestive and nutritional problems as well. Alcohol causes a release of insulin that will increase the metabolism of glycogen, thereby sparing fat making fat loss more difficult. Because alcohol also can interfere with the absorption of many nutrients, you can become anemic and deficient in the B vitamins. Since your liver is the organ that detoxifies alcohol, the more you drink, the harder you liver has to work and the extra stress can damage and even destroy some liver cells.

Alcohol is also diuretic so large amounts can put a lot of extra stress on your kidneys. during diuretic action, ant diuretic hormones are secreted. this can result in heightened water retention and no one who exercises wants that to happen.
Alcohol, although having no nutritional value, also has seven calories per gram so excess consumption can lead to weight gain as well.

If you must consume alcohol, do so in moderation and never consume alcohol right before exercise as this will impair your balance, coordination and judgment. Remember this, if you’ve taken the time to make the effort to improve your physical conditioning and your overall health, why take major steps backwards and impede you improvements by excess consumption of alcohol?

ADHD – An Overview

ADHD is neither a new mental health problem nor is it a disorder created for the purpose of personal gain or financial profit by pharmaceutical companies, the mental health field, or by the media. It is a very real behavioral and medical disorder that affects millions of people nationwide. according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), ADHD is one of the most common mental disorders in children and adolescents. according to NIMH, the estimated number of children with ADHD is between 3% – 5% of the population. NIMH also estimates that 4.1 percent of adults have ADHD.

Although it has taken quite some time for our society to accept ADHD as a bonafide mental health and/or medical disorder, in actuality it is a problem that has been noted in modern literature for at least 200 years. As early as 1798, ADHD was first described in the medical literature by Dr. Alexander Crichton, who referred to it as Mental Restlessness. a fairy tale of an apparent ADHD youth, The Story of Fidgety Philip, was written in 1845 by Dr. Heinrich Hoffman. in 1922, ADHD was recognized as Post Encephalitic Behavior Disorder. in 1937 it was discovered that stimulants helped control hyperactivity in children. in 1957 methylphenidate (Ritalin), became commercially available to treat hyperactive children.

The formal and accepted mental health/behavioral diagnosis of ADHD is relatively recent. in the early 1960s, ADHD was referred to as Minimal Brain Dysfunction. in 1968, the disorder became known as Hyperkinetic Reaction of Childhood. at this point, emphasis was placed more on the hyperactivity than inattention symptoms. in 1980, the diagnosis was changed to ADD–Attention Deficit Disorder, with or without Hyperactivity, which placed equal emphasis on hyperactivity and inattention. by 1987, the disorder was renamed Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and was subdivided into four categories (see below). Since then, ADHD has been considered a medical disorder that results in behavioral problems.

Currently, ADHD is defined by the DSM IV-TR (the accepted diagnostic manual) as one disorder which is subdivided into four categories:

1. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Predominantly Inattentive Type (previously known as ADD) is marked by impaired attention and concentration.

2. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Predominantly Hyperactive, Impulsive Type (formerly known as ADHD) is marked by hyperactivity without inattentiveness.

3. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Combined Type (the most common type) involves all the symptoms: inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.

4. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Not otherwise Specified. this category is for the ADHD disorders that include prominent symptoms of inattention or hyperactivity-impulsivity, but do not meet the DSM IV-TR criteria for a diagnosis.

To further understand ADHD and its four subcategories, it helps to illustrate hyperactivity, impulsivity, and/or inattention through examples.

Typical hyperactive symptoms in youth include:

  • Often on the go or acting as if driven by a motor
  • Feeling restless
  • Moving hands and feet nervously or squirming
  • Getting up frequently to walk or run around
  • Running or climbing excessively when it’s inappropriate
  • Having difficulty playing quietly or engaging in quiet leisure activities
  • Talking excessively or too fast
  • Often leaving seat when staying seated is expected
  • Often can’t be involved in social activities quietly

Typical symptoms of impulsivity in youth include:

  • Acting rashly or suddenly without thinking first
  • Blurting out answers before questions are fully asked
  • Having a difficult time awaiting a turn
  • Often interrupting others’ conversations or activities
  • Poor judgment or decisions in social situations, which result in the child not being accepted by his/her own peer group.

Typical symptoms of inattention in youth include:

  • Not paying attention to details or makes careless mistakes
  • Having trouble staying focused and being easily distracted
  • Appearing not to listen when spoken to
  • Often forgetful in daily activities
  • Having trouble staying organized, planning ahead, and finishing projects
  • Losing or misplacing homework, books, toys, or other items
  • Not seeming to listen when directly spoken to
  • Not following instructions and failing to finish activities, schoolwork, chores or duties in the workplace
  • Avoiding or disliking tasks that require ongoing mental effort or concentration

Of the four ADHD subcategories, Hyperactive-Impulsive Type is the most distinguishable, recognizable, and the easiest to diagnose. The hyperactive and impulsive symptoms are behaviorally manifested in the various environments in which a child interacts: i.e., at home, with friends, at school, and/or during extracurricular or athletic activities. Because of the hyperactive and impulsive traits of this subcategory, these children naturally arouse the attention (often negative) of those around them. Compared to children without ADHD, they are more difficult to instruct, teach, coach, and with whom to communicate. Additionally, they are prone to be disruptive, seemingly oppositional, reckless, accident prone, and are socially underdeveloped.

Parents of ADHD youth often report frustration, anger, and emotional depletion because of their child’s inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. by the time they receive professional services many parents of ADHD children describe complex feelings of anger, fear, desperation, and guilt. Their multiple failures at getting their children to focus, pay attention, and to follow through with directions, responsibilities, and assignments have resulted in feelings of hopelessness and desperation. These parents often report feeling guilty over their resentment, loss of patience, and reactive discipline style. Both psychotherapists and psychiatrists have worked with parents of ADHD youth who joke by saying if someone doesn’t help my child, give me some medication

The following statistics (Dr. Russel Barkley and Dr. Tim Willens) illustrate the far reaching implications of ADHD in youth.

  • ADHD has a childhood rate of occurrence of 6-8%, with the illness continuing into adolescence for 75% of the patients, and with 50% of cases persisting into adulthood.
  • Boys are diagnosed with ADHD 3 times more often than girls.
  • Emotional development in children with ADHD is 30% slower than in their non-ADHD peers.
  • 65% of children with ADHD exhibit problems in defiance or problems with authority figures. this can include verbal hostility and temper tantrums.
  • Teenagers with ADHD have almost four times as many traffic citations as non-ADD/ADHD drivers. They have four times as many car accidents and are seven times more likely to have a second accident.
  • 21% of teens with ADHD skip school on a regular basis, and 35% drop out of school before finishing high school.
  • 45% of children with ADHD have been suspended from school at least once.
  • 30% of children with ADHD have repeated a year of school.
  • Youth treated with medication have a six fold less chance of developing a substance abuse disorder through adolescence.
  • The juvenile justice system is composed of 75% of kids with undiagnosed learning disabilities, including ADHD.

ADHD is a genetically transmitted disorder. Research funded by the National Institute of Medical Health (NIMH) and the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) have shown clear evidence that ADHD runs in families. according to recent research, over 25% of first-degree relatives of the families of ADHD children also have ADHD. Other research indicates that 80% of adults with ADHD have at least one child with ADHD and 52% have two or more children with ADHD. The hereditary link of ADHD has important treatment implications because other children in a family may also have ADHD. moreover, there is a distinct possibility that the parents also may have ADHD. of course, matters get complicated when parents with undiagnosed ADHD have problems with their ADHD child. Therefore, it is crucial to evaluate a family occurrence of ADHD, when assessing an ADHD in youth.

Diagnosing Attention Deficit Disorder Inattentive Type in youth is no easy task. More harm than good is done when a person is incorrectly diagnosed. a wrong diagnosis may lead to unnecessary treatment, i.e., a prescription for ADHD medication and/or unnecessary psychological, behavioral and/or educational services. Unnecessary treatment like ADHD medication may be emotionally and physically harmful. Conversely, when an individual is correctly diagnosed and subsequently treated for ADHD, the potential for dramatic life changes are limitless.

A medical doctor (preferably a psychiatrist) or another licensed, trained, and qualified mental health professional can diagnose ADHD. only certain medical professionals can prescribe medication. These are physicians (M.D. or D.O.), nurse practitioners, and physician assistants (P.a.) under the supervision of a physician. however, psychiatrists, because of their training and expertise in mental health disorders, are the best qualified to prescribe ADHD medication.

While the ADHD Hyperactive Type youth are easily noticed, those with ADHD Inattentive Type are prone to be misdiagnosed or, worse, do not even get noticed. moreover, ADHD Inattentive Type youth are often mislabeled, misunderstood, and even blamed for a disorder over which they have no control. Because ADHD Inattentive Type manifests more internally and less behaviorally, these youth are not as frequently flagged by potential treatment providers. Therefore, these youth often do not receive potentially life-enhancing treatment, i.e., psychotherapy, school counseling/coaching, educational services, and/or medical/psychiatric services. Unfortunately, many fall between the cracks of the social service, mental health, juvenile justice, and educational systems.

Youth with unrecognized and untreated ADHD may develop into adults with poor self concepts low self esteem, associated emotional, educational, and employment problems. according to reliable statistics, adults with unrecognized and/or untreated ADHD are more prone to develop alcohol and drug problems. It is common for adolescents and adults with ADHD to attempt to soothe or self medicate themselves by using addictive substances such as alcohol, marijuana, narcotics, tranquilizers, nicotine, cocaine and illegally prescribed or street amphetamines (stimulants).

Approximately 60% of people who had ADHD symptoms as a child continue to have symptoms as adults. and only 1 in 4 of adults with ADHD was diagnosed in childhood-and even fewer are treated. Thanks to increased public awareness and the pharmaceutical corporations’ marketing of their medications, more adults are now seeking help for ADHD. however, many of these adults who were not treated as children carry emotional, educational, personal, and occupational scars. As children, these individuals, did not feel as smart, successful and/or likable as their non ADHD counterparts. With no one to explain why they struggled at home, with friends, and in school, they naturally turned inward to explain their deficiencies. Eventually they internalize the negative messages about themselves, thereby creating fewer opportunities for success as adults.

Similarly to youths, adults with ADHD have serious problems with concentration or paying attention, or are overactive (hyperactive) in one or more areas of living. Some of the most common problems include:

  • Problems with jobs or careers; losing or quitting jobs frequently
  • Problems doing as well as you should at work or in school
  • Problems with day-to-day tasks such as doing household chores, paying bills, and organizing things
  • Problems with relationships because you forget important things, can’t finish tasks, or get upset over little things
  • Ongoing stress and worry because you don’t meet goals and responsibilities
  • Ongoing, strong feelings of frustration, guilt, or blame

According to Adult ADHD research:

  • ADHD may affect 30% of people who had ADHD in childhood.
  • ADHD does not develop in adulthood. only those who have had the disorder since early childhood really suffer from ADHD.
  • A key criterion of ADHD in adults is disinhibition–the inability to stop acting on impulse. Hyperactivity is much less likely to be a symptom of the disorder in adulthood.
  • Adults with ADHD tend to forget appointments and are frequently socially inappropriate–making rude or insulting remarks–and are disorganized. They find prioritizing difficult.
  • Adults with ADHD find it difficult to form lasting relationships.
  • Adults with ADHD have problems with short-term memory. almost all people with ADHD suffer other psychological problems–particularly depression and substance abuse.

While there is not a consensus as to the cause of ADHD, there is a general agreement within the medical and mental health communities that it is biological in nature. Some common explanations for ADHD include: chemical imbalance in the brain, nutritional deficiencies, early head trauma/brain injury, or impediments to normal brain development (i.e. the use of cigarettes and alcohol during pregnancy). ADHD may also be caused by brain dysfunction or neurological impairment. Dysfunction in the areas in the frontal lobes, basal ganglia, and cerebellum may negatively impact regulation of behavior, inhibition, short-term memory, planning, self-monitoring, verbal regulation, motor control, and emotional regulation.

Because successful treatment of this disorder can have profound positive emotional, social, and family outcomes, an accurate diagnosis is tremendously important. Requirements to diagnose ADHD include: professional education (graduate and post graduate), ongoing training, supervision, experience, and licensure. Even with the essential professional qualifications, collaboration and input from current or former psychotherapists, parents, teachers, school staff, medical practitioners and/or psychiatrists creates more reliable and accurate diagnoses. The value of collaboration cannot be understated.

Sound ethical practice compels clinicians to provide the least restrictive and least risky form of therapy/treatment to youth with ADHD. Medication or intensive psycho-therapeutic services should only be provided when the client would not favorably respond to less invasive treatment approaches. Therefore, it is crucial to determine whether functional impairment is or is not present. Clients who are functionally impaired will fail to be successful in their environment without specialized assistance, services, and/or psycho-therapeutic or medical treatment. once functional impairment is established, then it is the job of the treatment team to collaborate on the most effective method of treatment.

All too often, a person is mistakenly diagnosed with ADHD, not due to attention deficit issues, but rather because of their unique personality, learning style, emotional make-up, energy and activity levels, and other psycho-social factors that better explain their problematic behaviors. a misdiagnosis could also be related to other mental or emotional conditions (discussed next), a life circumstance including a parent’s unemployment, divorce, family dysfunction, or medical conditions. in a small but significant number of cases, this diagnosis of ADHD better represents an adult’s need to manage a challenging, willful and oppositional child, who even with these problems may not have ADHD.

It is critical that before an ADHD diagnosis is reached (especially before medication is prescribed), that a clinician consider if other coexisting mental or medical disorders may be responsible for the hyperactive, impulsive, and/or inattentive symptoms. Because other disorders share similar symptoms with ADHD, it is necessary to consider the probability of one mental/psychological disorder over that of another that could possibly account for a client’s symptoms. For example, Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Major Depression share the symptoms of disorganization, lack of concentration, and work completion issues. a trained and qualified ADHD specialist will consider differential diagnoses in order to arrive at the most logical and clinically sound diagnosis. Typical disorders to be ruled out include: Generalized Anxiety, Major Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Substance Abuse Disorders. Additionally, medical explanations should be similarly sought: sleep disorders, nutritional deficiencies, hearing impairment, and others.

When a non-medical practitioner formally diagnoses a client with ADHD, i.e. a licensed psychotherapist, it is recommended that a second opinion (or confirmation of the diagnosis) be sought from a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are medical practitioners who specialize in the medical side of mental disorders. Psychiatrists are able to prescribe medicine that may be necessary to treat ADHD. in collaboration, the parents, school personnel, the referring psychotherapist, and the psychiatrist, will monitor the effectiveness of the medical component of the ADHD treatment.

In summary, ADHD is a mental health and medical disorder that has become increasingly more accepted and consequently treated more effectively. To achieve high professional assessment, diagnostic, educational, and treatment standards, it is important that trained and qualified practitioners understands the multidimensional aspects of ADHD: history, diagnosis, statistics, etiology, and treatment. Training, experience, a keen interest for details, a solid foundation of information, and a system of collaboration creates the potential for positive outcomes in the treatment of ADHD.

Ready or not, it’s time for Facebook’s Timeline

Set aside some time for Timeline. Especially if you have been actively using Facebook for years. this is going to take a while.

Fresh off its global debut in New Zealand, Facebook is rolling out its new profile design to all of its more than 800 million users. For the first time, they are getting a look at how their lives are about to appear to all of their friends.

Facebook said in a blog post Thursday that users can either wait for a notification to pop up on their screen or go to facebook.com/about/timeline to get Timeline right away. no point in foot dragging: Eventually all profiles will switch to the new look.

That means that all of those forgotten memories won't be lining the dustbin of your personal history for long. the new design has a way of bringing even the most mundane status update rushing back.

It used to be that profiles surfaced only the most recent stuff. But Timeline is like an obsessive compulsive's digital scrapbook, collecting every detail, no matter how trivial, in chronological order.

It may get people to think twice about what they do and say on Facebook. or not. It's likely that a lot of people will look at the new profile, throw up their hands and just keep on doing what they've been doing. For now, it probably means that everyone with a Facebook profile is going to spend a lot of time perusing, pruning and doing a whole lot of adding.

Take it from me: I used a workaround meant for software developers and got Timeline shortly after Mark Zuckerberg unveiled it in late September during Facebook's annual developer conference in San Francisco. I could see what was happening in my life years ago as clearly as today. I proceeded to pore over my profile to highlight what was important to me and hide what wasn't. I also noticed a lot of other folks getting busy adding photos from important moments in their lives to better reflect their lives on Facebook.

It goes without saying that some people will love the new design and some will hate it. It's impossible to make even the smallest change on Facebook without upsetting someone.

If you make the switch now, you have seven days to preview the changes, highlight or hide whatever you want and adjust your privacy settings before Timeline becomes your official Facebook profile.

If you want to see how your Facebook profile appears to other people, click the gear menu at the top of Timeline and click on "View as."

2011 NBA Free Agents: Brandon Roy Would Bring Chicago Bulls a Championship

The only question for the Chicago Bulls post-NBA lockout is at shooting guard, and signing Brandon Roy to fill that void would give them an NBA Championship.

With the new amnesty clause in place, the Portland Trail Blazers are expected to release Brandon Roy, relieving them of the responsibility of his $50 million contract over the next four years.

When Roy is waived the Bulls should jump on him, trying their best to add him to their team.

The Bulls were the best team in the East last year but fell short in the playoffs because they lacked a shooting guard. while Derrick Rose is a stud, he needs some help in the backcourt if this team is going to win it all.

The Bulls are going to have some flexibility during free agency because of the new collective bargaining agreement, and they will use that to go after Roy.

The team tried to address their concerns in the backcourt by drafting Norris Cole, but the 6’2″ guard is too small and does not have the range to be an NBA shooting guard. while he could play point and have Rose play shooting guard, that would be a mistake, as Rose is clearly a point guard.

The Bulls must find a way to add a shooting guard through free agency: it is the only way they can win an NBA title.

The Bulls do not need to address any position other than shooting guard. Besides Rose, they have a formidable frontcourt of Joakim Noah, Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer. These three helped Chicago along its path to another NBA championship, but could not do it all.

Roy was once a stud and he still has that potential. If he can bring that talent to Chicago, no one can stop the Bulls on their way to the NBA finals and another title. not even the Miami Heat and their Big three could stop this team with Roy.

While Roy has had some trouble with injuries, as long as he is healthy during the playoffs, the Bulls will win it all.

The Bulls were the best team in the regular season last year, going 62-20. by adding Roy we could easily see them go 67-15, and win the Eastern Conference. while they will surely have some competition along the way, the Bulls would set themselves up for an NBA championship by adding Roy, and that should be their first priority.

Rodney Atkins files for divorce, attorneys deny assault

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Rodney Atkins has filed for divorce and his attorney denied Thursday the country singer assaulted his wife last month.

Atkins was arrested Nov. 21 and charged with domestic assault. his wife, Tammy Jo Atkins, told police that after a night of heavy drinking he assaulted her and tried to suffocate her with a pillow. Attorney Rose Palermo said in a statement the allegations of violence are “completely untrue” and that the argument between the couple did not become physical.

Palermo writes of “an unfortunate verbal dispute” that was within hearing range of the couple’s young son. When Atkins realized this, “his first priority became getting out of the earshot of the child, and that is when Mrs. Atkins called the police and gave them her version of the argument, which is completely untrue.”

The platinum-selling singer, known for No. 1 hits including “If You’re going Through Hell (Before the Devil even Knows),” ”Take a back Road” and “Watching You,” decided to file for divorce as a result of the false statement to police, the statement says.

Both allege inappropriate marital conduct in divorce filings in Williamson County. Tammy Jo Atkins is seeking full custody, an equal distribution of their assets, alimony and child support. Rodney Atkins is seeking joint custody. in one filing, his attorney says Tammy Jo Atkins’ “ill conduct” was a justifiable cause for his own conduct in the early morning hours of Nov. 21.

Tammy Jo Atkins told police the couple had been arguing all night and that her husband was intoxicated. She claimed he tried to smother her with a pillow during the night and then in the morning grabbed her by the face and shoved her down a hallway. She said she feared for her safety and that the assault occurred in front of their 10-year-old son, Elijah. a hearing in the divorce case is scheduled for Dec. 20.

Palermo’s statement says the police witnessed no violent acts and that this is a case of her word against his.

“Mr. Atkins plans to spend significant time with his child over the Christmas holidays and respectfully requests privacy at this time,” the statement reads. “Mr. Atkins wants to thank his fans for standing by him and he is confident the truth will prevail.”

Robert Jackson, the attorney for Tammy Jo Atkins, did not immediately respond to a message left by the Associated Press.

Louis CK Wins the Internet (and a Bet on Human Decency)

On Saturday, comedian Louis CK did what was arguably a stupid thing. He made his latest concert video, Live at the Beacon Theater, available for streaming and download at his website for five bucks. the stupid part, depending on your view of human nature, is that he put up a version of the video that had no copy protection—you download it, you can watch it on your computer, burn it to a DVD, do as you wish. in theory, there was nothing preventing you from simply paying five bucks once and burning DVDs for everyone you know, or, more likely, making it available somewhere for people to download for free. nothing except your theoretical desire not to be a jerk.

Surprise of surprises: the video went live, and it turns out that people—well, at least more than a hundred thousand of them, according to the comic—were not jerks. As Louis CK reports on his website, though he had been told that his means of selling the video was naive, it worked, well enough anyway:

The show went on sale at noon on Saturday, December 10th. 12 hours later, we had over 50,000 purchases and had earned $250,000, breaking even on the cost of production and website. As of Today, we’ve sold over 110,000 copies for a total of over $500,000. Minus some money for PayPal charges etc, I have a profit around $200,000 (after taxes $75.58). this is less than I would have been paid by a large company to simply perform the show and let them sell it to you, but they would have charged you about $20 for the video. They would have given you an encrypted and regionally restricted video of limited value, and they would have owned your private information for their own use. They would have withheld international availability indefinitely. this way, you only paid $5, you can use the video any way you want, and you can watch it in Dublin, whatever the city is in Belgium, or Dubai. I got paid nice, and I still own the video (as do you). you never have to join anything, and you never have to hear from us again.

I really hope people keep buying it a lot, so I can have shitloads of money, but at this point I think we can safely say that the experiment really worked. If anybody stole it, it wasn’t many of you. Pretty much everybody bought it. And so now we all get to know that about people and stuff.

I bought the video, by the way, and it was unsurprisingly well worth the five bucks, an hour-plus of Louis CK-ian observations on sex, parenting and human nature. That last subject is especially relevant here, by the way, because the special includes a lot of on-target material on the subject of selfishness: how people would rather greatly inconvenience other people than slightly inconvenience themselves, how there’s really nothing stopping you from just dropping all social pretense and being a prick to everyone around you—and, probably, getting away with it.

That last is something Louis CK says, in his routine, that he understands: he goes into a story about how once, late for a flight, he simply drove his rental car up to the terminal, left it by the curbside, got on his plane and called the rental counter to say they’d need to send someone to pick it up. And they did:

I realized: I could do this every time. Every time I rent a car! because of course they want you to do all that shit. but if you don’t, they still want the car back. They’re gonna send a dude. you could drive a car until you don’t want it, just get out of it while it’s moving and just walk away. “well, I don’t feel like being in that car any longer.” I can just call Hertz, “Hi, your car is drifting into the intersection of 28th and Broadway, if you’re interested. It’s now your problem.”

Most people don’t do this, of course, which somewhat inconveniences them but has the practical benefit of not having to live in a society in which you have to dodge driverless cars in the street. Sure, it’s the oldest moral lesson on the planet, but one we evidently need to keep relearning. in Louis CK’s own routine, he comes down on the darker side of the argument: “most people don’t care. most people are pretty selfish.” (For a more optimistic take, see his bit, in the video above, on how love got humanity through the Ice Age.) but in real life, he bet on people following the Golden Rule, and shockingly, it worked.

Hey, I don’t know how many people ended up torrenting the video for free, but enough did pay up to make this a reliable model for a comic—at least one at Louis CK’s level—to do a funny show, get handsomely paid, and let the rest of us enjoy it fairly cheaply. Here’s to the people who return their cars at the rental counter.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba confident of breaking into first team this season

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is confident of breaking into the first team at Old Trafford this season.

The Frenchman has been given reassurances over his United future by Sir Alex Ferguson, who wanted to keep the youngster at the club despite being wanted on loan.

Pogba told the French Football Federation website: “A possible loan to a Championship club was discussed early in the season, but Sir Alex said he did not want me to leave.

“That makes me want to prove he was right in trusting me. I am proud of what I’m doing. I’m getting closer to the first team and I hope to progress further this season.”

Pogba admitted he was anxious ahead of making his debut at Leeds in the League Cup when he replaced Ryan Giggs at half-time.

“I was nervous but so happy to be among players like [Michael] Carrick, [Dimitar] Berbatov and [Michael] Owen,” he said. “It was a nice taste of the first team and made me want even more.”

The 18-year-old joined United from Le Havre in 2009 and was a key player in the Red Devils’ Youth Cup triumph in may.

“We lifted the cup in front of more than 25,000 fans – it was fabulous,” he added. “I always dreamed of playing teams like Chelsea and Liverpool and now it’s coming true.

“We continued a Mancunian tradition by winning that trophy for the 10th time. this proves I’m not in the north of England by accident!”
